The Floyd Burham family established a trading post in the 1930's. The trading post and the BIA school served as the center of the community for a long time. The Standing Rock Community School is now considered a historical site.
The Standing Rock Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.
